Another great day on the road. Left Zell am See amidst light snow and headed for Alleghe in Italia. We travelled through the Austrian alps and then through to the Italian Dolomiti. Towering snow covered mountains on either side of us. Our route took us through the delightfull ski town of Cortina D Ampezzo and then up and over the mighty Passo Giao and then down to Colle Santa Lucia our families’ village. Nothing much has changed in the four years we were last here. The landscape is still just as breathtaking and we are fortunate that the weather is all blue skies. The Giao was sparkling with white snow and of course the views quite unbelievable.
The staff at our hotel were welcoming and all remembered from our last stay. The same with the ski hire same family who looked after us last time. Now equipped with skis and ski passes to the Civetta area everyone is looking forward to a great week of skiing.
The most important thing of all of course is the food. We have just finished our first Italian Pizza and are looking forward to dinner. The dinner menu at our hotel is still as spectacular with a choice of Stuffed and Roasted veal, Cut beef with herbs or Speck of Tirol and cheese, Roasted potatoes with rosemary salad buffet. Not to mention starters of Minestrone Italian style, Macaroni with ham and tomato sauce, Stock with beaten eggs Roman style. All this finished off with Cream pudding with warm sauce Crème Caramel. This will be complimented with some fine local Italian wine.
We truly are looking forward to the next week.
